Chapter 16

WILBUR WEAVER

While not on the war front, life in the military for Wilbur Weaver was anything but dull. He was a pilot for the Army Air Corps and was stationed in New Mexico. He was a captain when he arrived in New Mexico and he retired as a Lt. Colonel. He was ordered to active duty during the war because he was already a member of the ROTC. He was 22 years old. He flew all sorts of planes. The AT-ll was one of the planes he flew.

Life in the military for Wilbur Weaver was anything but dull.

He was proud that he got to train bombadeer students. Their bombing target range is what is now the West Mesa. He was also a part of the investigation corps. Another of his jobs was to investigate accidents that happened around camp. He said that he would willingly do it all again if he needed to.

For entertainment, he went to movies, dances, played golf and played basketball. He said training was a physical workout. Unlike a lot of his friends, he liked the food they served in the army. This is pretty funny because it was mostly Wheaties and baked beans.

Mr. Weaver was glad to see the war end. He went back to school. He later married a girl from Santa Fe and settled here in Albuquerque. Mr. Weaver's granddaughter, Christi, helped to author this book.
